“Recess for Adults… Just Play” – that is the tag line of the Kingston Sport & Social Club (KSSC) and I have to say that from my experience it lives up to that and more!  I moved to Kingston just over a year and a half ago not knowing anyone in the city other than my grandparents.  I wanted to get out there, meet people, and have fun so I started looking for things to get involved in.  That’s how I discovered both Kingston Gets Active and Kingston Sport & Social Club, and I am extremely glad I did!

The Kingston Sport & Social Club (KSSC) is an organization focused on creating a better community for adults to live, play, work, and connect in.   They provide the largest, most organized and FUN outlet of co-ed sport leagues, tournaments, social events and classes in Kingston.  They have leagues throughout the year for all the usual sports you would expect like volleyball, soccer, softball, floor hockey, etc.  You are able to register as an individual, with a friend or two, or as a whole team.  They also offer all kinds of more unique sport/activity options like dance classes, sailing, kayaking, and Zumba!

I decided to join the Friday Night All Sorts of Sports league with KSSC because it sounded like adult gym class, as you play a different sport every week and pick teams randomly each time.  This allowed everyone in the league to play on a team at one point or another together making it easier to meet everyone and make new connections.  This league is advertised as a great way to have fun, be active, and meet new people.  Each week after playing the designated sport the group agrees on a spot to go for snacks/drinks to continue the fun and socializing.  I loved the social aspect of this league and met many of my closest Kingston friends through my time with KSSC.

Another unique thing about KSSC is the tournaments and special events they organize.  Throughout the year they organize several tournaments, including a volleyball tournament in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation, and a floor hockey tournament in support of the Ryandale Shelter for the Homeless.  They also partner with the Ottawa Sport & Social Club for big trips like their weekend ski trip to Mont Tremblant in January.  I attended the Tremblant ski weekend and had an amazing time!  Both experienced skiers and beginners went on the trip and all enjoyed themselves immensely.

KSSC has something for everyone, no matter your fitness or ability level.  If you want to get active, have fun, meet new people, and try new things I highly recommend checking out KSSC!  I think my next KSSC experience will be the “Kayaking – Paddle & Pint” class, hope to see you there this summer!

You can check out the KSSC website for all of the leagues, classes, tournaments and events.
