The City of Kingston and KGA in partnership with Canadian Sport for Life are proud to announce the first annual “Town Hall” on November 7th 2013. The event will draw individuals from a variety of sectors, all of whom are directly involved with the development and physical competency of our youth. The goal of this workshop is to educate the attendees on the importance of physical literacy, and to stress its role in a child’s long-term participation in physical activity. In simple terms, physical literacy involves the development of fundamental movement and sport skills that may be transferable to a number of athletic endeavours. Teaching kids the basic skills (i.e. throwing) allows them to feel confident and competent in a variety of sports; thus, increasing their likelihood of attempting new activities and remaining physically active throughout their teens and adulthood.
