City prepares to add cycling lanes on Princess Street in Williamsville

KINGSTON, ONT./May 26, 2015 – Beginning June 22, a number of on-street metered parking spaces are being removed from Princess Street between Macdonnell and Division Streets to prepare for the addition of buffered cycling lanes. The cycling lanes will be completed mid-July.

Work has begun to add metered parking along neighbouring side streets in this Williamsville area, within about 100 m of Princess Street.

“These bike-friendly improvements are part of the plan to revitalize this area of the city’s core, which has started to attract new developments and redevelopment of existing properties,” says Mark Van Buren, director of engineering.

The City seeks to balance the needs of businesses and their patrons who rely on nearby parking with the need to provide infrastructure that supports active transportation in this developing area.

Princess Street is being made bike-friendly to encourage more people to choose active forms of transportation – including cycling, walking and public transit – to travel to and from this central and increasingly busy area.
