April is Kingston Gets Active Month!

Are you thinking of trying a NEW activity? Have some favourites already? It’s time to run, jump, and play every day!  During the entire months of April and September, local sport and recreation organizations host FREE activities, information sessions, and active challenges to Kingston and the community!  There’s something for every age and every ability.

During the month of April, take advantage of free physical activities every day.  Try something new, get active and have fun.  Activities include walking or wheeling on the K&P Trail with KCAT, walking with the Kingston Outdoor Adventure Club, urban pole walking, skating, swimming, fencing, martial arts, junior tennis, early years gym activities, and fitness classes like pilates, yoga, group cycle, & Zumba.  Download a calendar below.  You can also tune in to the Kingston Gets Active Facebook page and Twitter feed.

CANCELLED:

Saturday, April 22 Walk/Cycle the K&P Trail has been cancelled due to prolonged winter conditions and continued trail construction.  We apologize for the disappointment but will try to reschedule this event at another time.

NEWLY ADDED ACTIVITIES (not on calendar):

 Free activities in Amherstview! Contact information is 613-634-5355 x303,  smcneill@loyalist.ca or emailloux@loyalist.ca.

  • Family Zumba: Thurs, April 6 (7-7:30 pm).  6 years and up.  This family based class breaks down routines based on original Zumba® choreography.  RSVP required (613-634-5355). Location: Amherstview Community hall, 108 Amherst Dr., Amherstview.
  • Art We Messy: Fri, April 7 (10-10:40 am).  2-4 year olds.  Join the fun and exciting class where your child will make crafts with pom poms, glitter glue and so much more.  RSVP required (613-634-5355).  Location: Leisure and Activity Centre, Amherstview.
  • Free Public Swim:  Tues, April 11 (7-8 pm).  Join us for a dip in our 25m pool!  For all ages. Location: WJ Henderson Recreation Centre, 322 Amherst Dr., Amherstview.
  • Cardio Kickbox:  Thurs, April 20 (5:30-6:20 pm).  Adults. This class will have you punching, kicking and sweating. You will burn calories and reduce stress levels all while getting in a great workout.  No RSVP needed. Location: Leisure & Activity Centre, Amherstview.
  • Cardio & Abs:  Sat., April 22 (9-9:50 am).  A great way to burn calories, improve your cardiovascular system and work your core!  For adults.  No RSVP required.  Location: Leisure & Activity Centre, Amherstview.

1 Join the KGA Month Challenge

Print out the Wellness Challenge Passport and track your progress. At the end of KGA Month, submit it at Artillery Park Aquatic Centre or by emailing a picture (CS4L@cityofkingston.ca) to be entered for prizes.

2 Challenge yourself with these wellness choices:

  • get active
  • connect more
  • be mindful
  • eat healthy

Get more ideas by downloading the Wellness Challenge Passport and by clicking on our ‘Wellness Tips’.

3 Track your wellness choices

Use the passport to track your activities. Can you make a choice in each wellness category?

4 Submit your completed passport by May 8th for a chance to win a prize!

Drop by Artillery Park Aquatic Centre and drop off your passport or take a picture and email it to us (CS4L@cityofkingston.ca). You will be entered to win an iPod shuffle or one of our other great prizes!
